Hospice Scarborough, administered by the VON, Toronto-York Region Branch, is an at-home hospice programme,
providing emotional, respite, bereavement and spiritual support for individuals, caregivers and families living at
home and dealing with a progressive life-threatening illness.
Hospice Scarborough relies on volunteers to assist us in our work in improving the quality of life for those
experiencing life-threatening illnesses. Volunteers are recruited, selected, trained and placed in the homes of
those suffering from illnesses. Volunteers are 21 years of age and over and commit to one year of service, between two
to four hours a week. We are pleased to retain their services after the first year, and many volunteers do stay,
bringing solid experience to their volunteering. Volunteers are trained in accordance with provincial hospice standards,
and given professional backup support from Hospice Scarborough.
Access to Hospice Scarborough services is straightforward. Anyone may refer themselves or someone
else, be it a friend or family member. Professionals are also encouraged to refer someone.
