April 19 – 25 is National Volunteer Week

Volunteer week

This National Volunteer Week, we honour all of the incredible volunteers who are essential members of the VON team, helping us to put our mission into action every day.

For National Volunteer Week 2026, Volunteer Canada is leading an “Ignite Volunteerism” campaign, part of a year-long celebration of the power of civic participation, and a call to rebuild volunteer infrastructure nationwide.

Here at VON, we are proud to celebrate the achievements of our volunteers during National Volunteer Week and throughout the year. VON volunteers provide meal delivery, important safety checks, transportation, increased social connection, bereavement counselling, administrative and office support and more. In addition, VON’s Ontario Community Corporation and Nova Scotia Community Fundraising and Advocacy Committee volunteers support community engagement, advocacy and fundraising across both provinces and our national Board of Directors provides governance oversight to the organization.

We also know our experienced volunteers are crucial to helping us rebuild the volunteer network that was reduced during COVID. Our volunteers are ambassadors for VON, mentors for their colleagues and an inspiration to all who see them in action.

To all our volunteers, thank you for your hard work, your belief in our mission and your dedication to deepening our impact in the communities we serve. Your efforts are helping our clients remain safe, supported and independent in their own homes and communities.

During National Volunteer Week, we honour your skills, your compassion and your commitment to creating a better world. We could not achieve all that we do without our volunteers, who contribute meaningfully to our teams at all levels of the organization.

Thank you for sharing your time and talents with our staff members, our clients and our communities. We are so appreciative of all that you do.

With gratitude,
